Ahmedabad took the heritage walk once again through the meandering lanes of the walled city. The trek had a special itinerary and title — Craft Walk — and helped explorers savour a vibrant legacy of the city. Craft is as integral to Ahmedabad as its walls.
“Crafts of Ahmedabad express a significant part of the Living Heritage of the city, reflecting regional, socio-cultural, historical and traditional aspects of communities,” said Debashish Nayak, adviser for Craft Walk.

Around 20 participants from across social backgrounds joined the Craft Walk at Design Sewa Center in Shal ni Pol.
To them was revealed the beauty of textile crafts like appliqué, block printing and bharat-kaam. The participants were then shown the exquisite wooden carvings that embellish many pol houses and were provided an indetail demonstration at Diwanji ni Haveli. Arts Reverie illustrated how traditional crafts like mata ni pachedi and lipan can create a beautiful modern space. Mangaldas Ni Haveli was like an encyclopedia of various crafts — from wooden carvings to papier-mâché. The highlight of the walk was Shreyasnath Derasar at Shyamlaji ni Pol with its stunning mirror work in its interiors.
